Digital Video Recorder (DVR)
A Digital Video Recorder (DVR), also referred to as Personal Video Recorder (PVR), is an interactive electronics device that records television shows in a digital format. The television shows can be stored client-side (on a hard disk in the set-top box) or server-side (stored by a video server at the head-end that has been designed for this purpose).
Most DVR recorders use the MPEG format for encoding signals.
TiVo is an example of a DVR.
