Data Over Cable Systems Interface Specification (DOCSIS)

DOCSIS was developed by CableLabs and defines the communications and interface standards for exchanging bidirectional signals over cable systems.

DOCSIS allows high-speed data transfer to occur on an existing cable TV (CATV) network. Cable television operators around the world have implemented various flavors of DOCSIS to provide Internet access over their existing hybrid fibre coaxial (HFC) infrastructure.
